MELBOURNE, Australia -- Representing the United States for the first time and making his first trip to Australia, Kevin Streelman wasnt over-awed by a tough Royal Melbourne golf course on Thursday. Nike Roshe One Print Cz . Streelman birdied five of the first six holes on the back nine before making bogey on two of the final three to share the first round lead at the World Cup with Thomas Bjorn at 5-under 66. K.J. Choi, Martin Laird and Stuart Manley were tied for third at 67, and Jason Day (68) was sixth place, two strokes behind the leaders. Another American, Matt Kuchar, shot 71 after four bogeys on the back nine. David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., is the top Canadian after the first round. Hes in a tie for ninth at 1-under 70. Ottawas Brad Fritsch opened at even 71. The Americans and Denmark were tied for the team lead, three strokes ahead of Portugal. Traditionally a team event, an individual stroke-play competition was added to the tournament this year to mirror the format to be used at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Only 12 of the 60 players in the no-cut field broke par. "I made some good birdie putts today and some par saves as well, so pretty happy," Streelman said. "On 18, the wind tricked us a little bit and it floated me on a hair and it came down in the middle of that bunker and plugged pretty deep. I had no shot. Its going to happen out here, you expect it." Bjorn had a poor start to his day, four-putting the fourth hole. "I thought, Well, this could be a long day, but I just kind of kept my composure and made some good birdies and kept playing solid," the Dane said. "It is, in my eyes, probably the finest golf course you can ever play." Kuchar said he wasnt disappointed with his score. He bogeyed 18, a hole he double-bogeyed at the Australian Masters on Sunday to give Adam Scott as two-stroke win. "The back side today, certainly 16, 18, are really tough holes," Kuchar said. "I was not able to finish those off as well as I would like to have today, but even par is not a bad score." Scott, who won the Australian PGA before his Australian Masters victory, had a quintuple-bogey 9 on the 12th hole and shot 75. Trying to drive over a dog-leg with his tee shot, Scott hit his first ball on the par-4, 440-yard 12th into the bushes in the right rough, then hit a provisional in the same area. He didnt find his first ball and his second was unplayable, so he returned to the tee and hit his fifth shot. Scott hit through the green on his approach, got on the green for seven and two-putted for nine. "Just a couple of lazy swings and I paid the price," Scott said. "Just away with the fairies on that hole. When you play good tracks like this you need to be switched on at all times and I paid the price." The system being used to determine the entries at the World Cup -- world golf rankings and the number of players eligible from each country based on those rankings -- will be used at the Rio Games when golf returns to the Olympic program in 2016. http://www.freeflyknitprodejcz.com/damske-adidas-s...41830.h tml . "Im going to send Webbie a six-pack (of beer) tonight," she said. Webb wasnt sure that would help. "Ill probably drink one and go to sleep," the Australian veteran said. The two players set up a Sunday showdown between former HSBC champions after finishing off their third rounds with identical birdies over three of the last five holes Saturday to separate themselves slightly from the rest of the crowded leaderboard. http://www.freeflyknitprodejcz.com/nike-juvenate-p...-boty.h tml . Ryan Getzlaf certainly got them started in the second. Getzlaf scored the first two goals in the second, and Teemu Selanne scored the go-ahead goal late in the period as the Anaheim Ducks beat the Nashville Predators 4-3 Thursday night. http://www.freeflyknitprodejcz.com/nike-free-flykn...-boty.h tml . Some members of the U.S. Congress arent so sure. They say Russia isnt doing enough to assure that athletes will be protected at the Feb. 7-23 games, happening not far from an Islamic insurgency that Russias huge security apparatus has struggled for two decades to quell. Russia may run greater risks in towns outside the tightly controlled Olympic zone. Suicide bombs last month a few hundred kilometres (miles) away have increased concerns, and an Islamic warlord has urged his followers to attack the Sochi Olympics, Russian President Vladimir Putins pet project.(SportsNetwork.com) - The Anaheim Ducks havent faced much adversity this season, but the Pacific Division leaders will try to avoid losing four straight games for only the second time this season when they visit the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night. It wasnt that long ago when the Ducks appeared poised to run away with the division title but the club has fallen on hard times of late. Anaheim has lost three straight and six of its last nine games and Bruce Boudreaus team is a pedestrian 7-7-2 over its last 16 games. The malaise has helped San Jose force its way into the Pacific title conversation. After winning for the eighth time in 11 games on Tuesday, the Sharks are just two points in back of Anaheim for first place. The Ducks are also two points behind St. Louis for the NHL lead. Anaheim has managed to gain two points during its current 0-1-2 slide, but the club came up empty in Mondays 3-1 home loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak each registered a goal and two assists to lead Toronto to the victory in Leafs head coach Randy Carlyles return to Anaheim. Carlyle, of course, led the Ducks to their only Stanley Cup title in 2007. He served as Anaheims head coach for six-plus seasons before getting fired on Nov. 31, 2011 and replaced by Boudreau. Corey Perry scored the lone Ducks goal, while Frederik Andersen stopped 20 shots in the loss. "We had our fair chances, but we just couldnt capitalize on them," said Anaheim defenseman Francois Beauchemin. "I thought we played a decent game. We didnt get the result we wanted, but we had lots of chances offensively." The Ducks hope they can get back on track during a road-heavy portion of their schedule over the next few weeks. Anaheim, which has won three straight on the road and is 19-9-3 as the guest this season, kicks off a three-game trip tonight and will play seven of their next nine away from Orange County. Nike Juvenate Damske . Anaheim has claimed the first two of four meetings against the Flames this season and has won four of five and 10 of the past 13 encounters in this series. Calgary, however, has beaten the Ducks in three of the last four meetings at the Saddledome. The Flames, who are 17 points out of a playoff spot in the West, have lost two in a row. Calgary was last in action on Monday when it dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Los Angeles Kings. Calgary was down 3-0 with just under 13 minutes left in regulation, but made a valiant comeback effort behind goals from Mike Cammalleri and Brian McGrattan. In the end, however, the Flames were unable to get the equalizer and lost for the third time in five games. "Its unfortunate because I felt that defensively we did lots of good things, but we gave two goals off of tips in front and that ends up being the difference," said Calgary head coach Bob Hartley. "But once again we never quit. We pushed and we pushed and we made a decent come back." Joni Ortio made 20 saves in the loss and he could get another start in net tonight. The 22-year-old rookie has never faced the Ducks. Hiller expects to get the start for Anaheim. He is 5-4-1 with a 2.77 goals against average and .905 save percentage in 10 career games against the Flames. Calgary forward Markus Granlund is questionable for Wednesdays game with an upper-body injury suffered in the loss to the Kings. Defenseman Luca Sbisa is also questionable for Anaheim after sitting out Mondays game with a lower-body injury.
