Coral Gables, FL (SportsNetwork. Martin Brodeur Jersey .com) - The Miami-Florida Hurricanes will attempt to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host the Savannah State Tigers in a non-conference clash at BankUnited Center on Monday evening. Savannah State is in the midst of five-game road trip, which began with an ugly 95-49 loss at Indiana on Saturday. The Tigers have lost four of their last five games overall, and all six of their road contests. They will visit Kansas State next. After producing wins in each of their first eight games, the Hurricanes finally stumbled on Saturday, dropping a 68-55 decision to Green Bay in the third leg of a five-game homestand. They will finish up the stretch of home games on Friday against Eastern Kentucky before tangling with Providence as part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. Miami has won each of the four previous meetings with Savannah State, including a 68-51 victory last season. Obviously, nothing went right at either end of the court for the Tigers against Indiana. They made just 32.1 percent of their field goal attempts, while converting only 8-of-15 free throws. When they had their backs to the basket, the Tigers allowed the Hoosier to drain 57.4 percent of their total shots, which included a 10-of-21 showing from beyond the arc. They also suffered a 42-24 deficit on the glass. Demarcus Bryant scored 14 points on 5- of-15 shooting off the bench as the top scorer in the loss. Savannah State has been inconsistent on offense this season, the team making good on only 38.1 percent of its field goal tries, while netting a meager 57.1 points per game. They are only assisting on 8.9 field goals per game as well, while letting up 74.3 points per game on 45.6 percent accuracy. Not a single player on the roster is averaging in double figures, with Javaris Jenkins (9.1 ppg) acting as the leading scorer. Miami had offensive problems of its own against Green Bay, connecting on a mere 32.8 percent of its shots, on its home floor no less. In addition, the Hurricanes were outrebounded, 46-37, while letting the Phoenix cash in on 43.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Deandre Burnett netted a game-high 21 points, but it still came in a loss. The good news for Miami is it wasnt overwhelmed by Green Bay when it was on defense. The Hurricanes have been stronger at that end this season, allowing a mere 61 points per game on 39.2 percent shooting. The Hurricanes certainly need to get back to the consistent shooting (.469 FG percentage) that they have demonstrated for much of this season. Sheldon McClellan (16.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg) has been a major part of the offense and he did have 16 points against Green Bay. Angel Rodriguez (13.9 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.7 spg), Manu Lecomte (12 ppg) and Burnett (12.2 ppg) have produced for the most part as well. Doug Gilmour Jersey . PAUL, Minn. But San Diego had even more trouble against right-hander Tanner Roark, who pitched a three-hitter for the first complete game of his career as the Nationals shut out the Padres 4-0. The 27-year-old set down the first 16 batters before San Diego catcher Rene Rivera, an . SAN DIEGO -- Until Tuesday night, the only time A.J. Burnett had beaten the San Diego Padres was on May 12, 2001, when he threw a no-hitter against them while with the Marlins. "Was that the only time? There you go. You walk nine, you beat them every time," Burnett joked Tuesday night. Twelve years after that erratic gem, Burnett pitched seven strong innings against the Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates had six extra-base hits, including Neil Walkers home run, to beat San Diego 8-1 Tuesday night. "I had guys diving left and right behind me today and they were swinging the bat," said Burnett, who is now 2-5 against San Diego. "Its just fun to see everybody in this room contribute to whats going on right now. Im glad I was part of it tonight." Burnett (6-8) held San Diego to one run and four hits, struck out seven and walked one. He bounced back from two starts in which he allowed 10 earned runs and 16 hits in 10 innings. The Pirates opened a two-game lead in the NL Central over St. Louis, which lost 6-3 at Milwaukee. The Padres loaded the bases with two outs in the third before Burnett struck out Yonder Alonso. "His sixth inning was as good as any he had all night, pitching to the middle of the lineup," manager Clint Hurdle said. "So we decided when he came in 3-1, he was going back out. He had pitches to work with. He was able to reboot tonight. He used all his pitches. Very good outing for him." Burnett was backed by some nice defence. Left fielder Jose Tabata made a diving catch of Alexi Amaristas sinking liner in the first. Third baseman Pedro Alvarez made a diving stop of Nick Hundleys grounder in the second and Walker, the second baseman, made a diving stop of Jaff Deckers grounder in the third. Walker homered into the sandy play area beyond the fence in right-centre on a 3-1 pitch from Tyson Ross with one out in the first. It was his eighth. Alvarez reached on second baseman Jedd Gyorkos throwing error and Russell Martin followed with an RBI double to right. Alvarez tripled in the third to bring in Walker, who was hit by a pitch leading off the inning. Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run triple in the seventh. His fly balll landed just in front of diving centre fielder Alexi Amarista and rolled into the gap in right-centre. Brayden Schenn Jersey . After Alvarez and Russell Martin walked, pinch-hitter Josh Harrison tripled to right-centre to clear the bases and cap the five-run inning. "All our hits were to the big part of the field," Hurdle said. "Couple balls were pulled to the gap. Everything else, big part of the field, opposite. That was big for us tonight. Something weve been talking about, something weve been working on. We were able to put it in play tonight." The Padres have lost 10 of 14 and tied their season high by dropping 17 1/2 games behind the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers. Gyorko homered to left on a 1-2 pitch from Burnett leading off the fourth, his 14th. "I was able to get to him the one time but he did a good job of mixing his pitches," Gyorko said. "Sometimes you dont always get the read you want to on the ball." Ross (3-6) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits in 6 1-3 innings, struck out six and walked two. "It was a tough game. It was a bit of a struggle executing pitches early," Ross said. "But I did my best to keep the team in it. But Burnett did a good job." NOTES: The Pirates hit three triples for the third time this season. ... The series concludes Wednesday afternoon when Pirates RHP Gerrit Cole (6-5, 3.88 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Ian Kennedy (4-9, 5.12 ERA). .... Pirates closer Jason Grilli, on the disabled list since July 23 with a strained right forearm, is improving, although there is no timetable for his return. "Jason is moving forward at a very good fashion," manager Clint Hurdle said. ... OF Starling Marte didnt start for the second straight game because of a bruise on his right hand. He was stepped on during a head-first slide against the Arizona Diamondbacks. ... LHP Wandy Rodriguez will throw live batting practice Thursday before the Pirates begin a four-game series in San Francisco. Rodriguez said he continued to feel discomfort in his left arm after a bullpen session Monday. He went on the disabled list June 11 (retroactive to June 6) with left forearm tightness.
