WASHINGTON -- Nationals centre fielder Denard Span left in the third inning after making a diving, tumbling catch, and NL East champion Washington went on to a 4-2 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday night. Nike Shox Cheap . The win boosted the Nationals push for home-field advantage during the National League playoffs. They began the day three games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the leagues best record with less than a week left in the regular season. Span is a key player for the Nationals. A strong defensive presence and their leadoff hitter, he entered with the clubs highest batting average at .298 and most stolen bases with 31. The player who replaced him, rookie Michael Taylor, doubled home Washingtons first run in the fifth. Taylor wound up scoring moments later on Adam LaRoches 26th homer, a three-run shot into the home bullpen beyond right field off Bartolo Colon (14-13) that made it 4-1. Colon gave up four runs and five hits in six innings. Tanner Roark (15-10) allowed two runs in 6 1-3 innings to win his third consecutive start. Drew Storen pitched a scoreless ninth, making him 9 for 9 in save chances since taking over the primary closers role from struggling Rafael Soriano on Sept. 7. As good as Roark has been in his first full season as a major league starter, he appears destined to be in the bullpen for the post-season, because Washington is expected to go with a four-man rotation of Stephen Strasburg, Doug Fister, Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez. Coming off a 9-2 road trip, this was Washingtons first game at Nationals Park since Sept. 10 -- and the first chance for the home fans to salute the players since they clinched their second NL East championship in three years last Tuesday in Atlanta, Roarks previous outing. Roark was given a standing ovation as he headed from the bullpen to the dugout before Tuesdays game began, and again when he exited with two on in the seventh. When Washingtons players ran out to their positions for the top of the first, the crowd roared during another standing ovation, as the stadium announcer noted the division title. The fans rose to applaud yet again after Span made his terrific grab on the warning track of a liner off the bat of Matt den Dekker for the last out in the top of the third. Span received kudos from outfielders Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth, and a high-five from Roark, who waited for him on the grass between the infield and the dugout. Span, who has a history of concussion problems, walked slowly to the dugout, then headed toward the clubhouse with a team trainer. The Nationals did not immediately announce whether Span was injured. TRAINERS ROOM Nationals: Ryan Zimmerman was out of the lineup because his right hamstring felt sore; he pinch-hit in the seventh and popped out. Mets: Rookie RHP Jacob deGrom was shut down to make sure he ends the season healthy. ... Manager Terry Collins said CF Juan Lagares will not need surgery for a hyperextended right elbow. ... Collins said RHP Vic Black (rotator cuff strain) will avoid shoulder surgery but wont return this season, and 2B Dilson Herrera (right quadriceps strain) is doubtful to play again this year. UP NEXT Nationals LHP Gio Gonzalez (9-10, 3.74 ERA) faces Mets RHP Dillon Gee (7-8, 3.88) on Wednesday. METS MOVES The team announced a contract extension for GM Sandy Alderson that runs through 2017, and Alderson confirmed that Collins will be back next year. ... The retro logo of the Moose Jaw Warriors shows an image of a First Nations person on a skate and waving an axe. The logo was criticized when it was rereleased in February, but detractors were from mainly outside the city. The debate was renewed last month when Cree recording artist Buffy Sainte-Marie visited Moose Jaw and said the logo had to go. Barb Frazer, chairwoman of the Moose Jaw Cultural Diversity Advisory Committee, says the group is recommending that the logo be retired. She also says the team should consult aboriginal people and groups for direction and advice. "Buffy Sainte-Marie came into town and I was a little bit embarrassed that it took a cultural icon to really get us to bring awareness to this," Frazer told city council Monday. "When she was here laast, she brought this up . Nike Shox Mens Clearance . .. that this was a stereotype, that this was a logo that had to go." Frazer said she has no problem with the current logo showing a chief wearing a headdress or with the teams name. City council agreed to send a letter to the team to express concerns. "This is certainly not a broad-sided attack on the Warriors," said Coun. Don Mitchell. "There is concern ... about a kind of caricature presentation of the Hollywood version of cowboys and Indians. That might have been acceptable in the 1980s, but its not a fair representation." The team has not been contacted by the advisory committee, so Mayor Deb Higgins decided to speak to the Warriors directly. Three city councillors voted against the motion to send the team a letter. They said the city should not get involved directly and suggested it should be the committee that sends a letter to the Warriors about its concerns.
