SARASOTA, Fla. Adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged Uk . - Chris Davis hit a two-run double, scoring Nelson Cruz in his Orioles debut in Baltimores 9-7 win over to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Cruz, who signed with the Orioles on Monday, walked and scored from first on Davis double. Manager Buck Showalter was eager to get Cruz, who batted second and was the designated hitter, into the lineup. Cruz signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Orioles. "It doesnt feel like butterflies or anything. Buck asked me if I was nervous. I feel normal, I guess, as soon as I come out to the field. Its something I havent done for a while. It comes natural," Cruz said. In his first game of the spring, Davis, who led the majors with 53 home runs last season, was 1 for 3 with the opposite-field double. Davis was glad to play again with Cruz. The two were teammates in Texas. "Like clockwork. I was glad to see him work an at-bat like that. I think thats kind of where were all at after the first few days. Get in there, see some pitches. You just cant simulate this stuff. Youve got to be out there, youve got to turn on the competition again, and I felt good," Davis said. Toronto starter Drew Hutchison, battling for the fifth starters job, struck out four in throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit. Miguel Gonzalez gave up one run on three hits in two innings for Baltimore. The Orioles overcame a 7-2 deficit when they scored seven runs in the eighth. The big hits were a three-run triple by Francisco Peguero and a two-run single by Xavier Paul. Peguero, who signed with Baltimore in December, began the inning with a single. STARTING TIME Blue Jays: Hutchison must beat out Todd Redmond and Esmil Rogers to make the staff. "I dont really know where my velocity was today," Hutchison said. "I was more worried about throwing strikes and being crisp. The only thing, I got into a couple of deep counts, but other than that, it was a good day." Orioles: Gonzalez, who has a starting spot for Baltimore secured, is pitching as if he wasnt already guaranteed a job. "Youve still got to go out there and perform. You cant take it easy, no matter what. I think theres guys out there that want our position, so weve got to keep doing our work," Gonzalez said. TRAINERS ROOM Orioles: Outfielder Henry Urrutia will miss at least two days with a sore right shoulder. . Outfielder Quintin Berry, who had been sidelined with back spasms, pinch ran in the eighth inning and scored a run. Blue Jays: Pitcher Casey Janssen has a tender right shoulder, but its not considered serious, manager John Gibbons said. . Third baseman Brett Lawrie (hamstring) and outfielder Edwin Encarnacion (wrist) didnt make the trip, but their absences were precautionary, Gibbons said. LOOKING AHEAD Showalter said that right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez would make his first start against Philadelphia on Friday. Jimenez has yet to appear since he was signed to a four-year, $50 million contract late last month. . Outfielder Mike Yastrzemski, a Baltimore minor leaguer, will play in the Orioles game against Boston in Fort Myers on Sunday. Hes the grandson of Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. HONORING BARLOW A number of Baltimore players wore wristbands honouring Monica Barlow, the teams director of public relations, who died of cancer on Friday at 36. "She just helped me a lot with making the right decisions and doing things that not just helped me, but helped the team instead of just doing things just for the sake of doing them," outfielder Adam Jones said. After Andrew Romine served up two monster home runs in the inning, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he thought Romine was one of the bright spots on the night, showing just how bad the series opener against the last-place Minnesota Twins went for the Tigers.HOUSTON -- Seattle starter Chris Young was at a loss for words to explain Saturday nights debacle at the hands of the Houston Astros. One thing was clear to him, however. "This team needs better from me," Young said. Young got hit hard and often in an uncharacteristically poor outing, and the Mariners missed a chance to move up in the AL playoff race, tagged for five home runs Saturday night in a 10-1 loss to the Astros. The Mariners stayed one game behind AL wild-card leader Oakland and a half-game in back of Kansas City for the second slot. The As and Royals both lost earlier in the day. "I didnt pitch as well as Im capable of," Young said. "Im disappointed. Just felt good going in, dont know what happened. Just didnt make good pitches." Chris Carter and Alex Presley hit two-run homers and Matt Dominguez and Carlos Corporan added back-to-back solo shots. Jake Marisnick had a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Astros snapped a four-game skid. "They swung the bat well," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "They pretty much decided it real early." The Mariners loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth but managed to come out empty-handed, with Austin Jackson grounding into a double play to end the inning. "We pretty much had one shot and couldnt capitalize with it," McClendon said. Young (12-9) gave up seven runs and eight hits in three-plus innings. He also threw two wild pitches. "For the most part I feel like Ive given the team a chance," Young said. "A couple of starts this month I havent, but Ill bounce back." Dallas Keuchel (12-9) pitched eight strong innings, striking out eighth. He also reached 200 innings in a season for the first time in his career. Carter and Presley homered one batter apart in the first inning. Dominguez and Corporan connected off Young on consecutive pitches in the fourth. It was Carters 37th home run of the season, a career high. Nelson Cruz leads the majors with 39. Dexter Fowler doubled and scored two runs for the Astros. Houstonn tied a season high for homers previously achieved April 6 against the Angels. Adidas Climacool Boat Lace Shoes Uk . Jose Altuve got two hits, giving 218 this season. He tied Rod Carew for most by a second baseman since 1937. Carew reached the feat in 1974 with Minnesota. Charlie Gehringer had 227 with Detroit in 1936. Robinson Cano hit an RBI single for Seattle run in the third. Marisnick homered off Erasmo Ramirez, who pitched four innings in relief. The best thing for Young and the Mariners to do is put this game behind them, third baseman Kyle Seager said. "You are at this point of the year, you are in single-digit games left, and we obviously know where we stand," Seager said. "Every game is magnified right now." EYES ON THE RACE With his team in a tight race for an AL wild-card berth, McClendon delayed his pregame media availability so he could watch the end of Detroits 3-2 win over Kansas City. "Its like I tell the players ---- its not often that you get the opportunity to be in these positions," McClendon said. "Cherish them and enjoy the journey, and this is part of it." HES A HIT The Astros honoured Altuve prior to the game for breaking the clubs record for hits in a season. Craig Biggio, who had held the club record of 210 since 1998, took part in the ceremony at Minute Maid Park, which included Altuve being presented with a giant coupon good for 211 bottles of Minute Maid orange juice. TRAINERS ROOM Mariners: OF Dustin Ackley, who hit two homers in Fridays 10-5 win, sat out the game because of a bad left ankle. McClendon said he would play Sunday. Astros: RHP Josh Fields remains day-to-day with what interim manager Tom Lawless described as a strain. LHP Darin Downs, who felt discomfort in his right oblique in Fridays game, is also day to day. UP NEXT Mariners RHP Hisashi Iwakuma (14-8, 3.42 ERA), who is 6-3 over his last 10 starts, faces rookie RHP Collin McHugh (10-9, 2.66). McHugh has won his last six decisions and has allowed two runs or fewer in nine straight starts, the longest active streak in the majors.
