ATLANTA -- Looking for catching depth after losing Brian McCann to free agency, the Atlanta Braves acquired Ryan Doumit from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday for left-hander Sean Gilmartin. Lee Smith Jersey . The 32-year-old Doumit could share time with Evan Gattis, a rookie last season who is McCanns projected replacement as Atlantas primary starter. After playing his first seven seasons with Pittsburgh, Doumit spent two years in Minnesota. He hit .247 with 14 homers and 55 RBIs this year, when he started only 43 games at catcher and also played in the outfield. The switch-hitter batted .318 with 15 homers and 69 RBIs in 2008 for the Pirates and had his best power numbers in 2012, when he hit .275 with 18 homers and 75 RBIs for the Twins. Gilmartin, the 28th overall pick in the 2011 amateur draft, was 3-8 with a 5.74 ERA at Triple-A Gwinnett last season. The addition of Gilmartin is another in a series of moves by Minnesota to bolster starting pitching. The Twins added Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes and have a pending deal Mike Pelfrey. Gilmartin will be at spring training with a minor league contract. The 23-year-old is 12-20 with a 4.23 ERA in three minor league seasons. Rich Dauer Jersey . Hawkins, who turns 41 in December, will be in contention for the closer role with left-hander Rex Brothers, who stepped in last season after Rafael Betancourt got hurt and finished with 19 saves. The Rockies also like the hard-throwing Brothers as a set-up man in the eighth inning. Hawkins spent last season with the New York Mets, going 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA and 13 saves in 70 2-3 innings. The Mets tried to keep him and made an offer. "Were happy for him. He did a great job for us last year," Mets GM Sandy Alderson said.
