Watching reigning rushing champion Jon Cornish go at it against last years No. Michael Deiter Youth Jersey . 2 rusher Kory Sheets in Round 2 of the 2013 season was the most enjoyable game Ive seen in a long, long time. In the air raid, or pass-happy mentality of the CFL, the change of pace and focus towards the running attacks for both the Saskatchewan and Calgary offenses provided all the hype necessary for a classic contest. Cornish and Sheets did not disappoint. Some of the fodder for the rivalry started this off-season, when Cornish felt like the B.C. Lions did not show any respect for the Stampeders; even though the Lions were beaten in the West Final last season by the Calgary team. So, the first time the teams face each other this year, Cornish promptly goes out and puts up 172 yards on 24 carries and a couple of TDs. On the night, he had 25 touches for 192 yards. Plus, Sheets has stolen some, if not all, of the spotlight from Cornish because hes straight up balling this year and off to the fastest start through six games in the history of the CFL. (132 carries for 845 yards) You may be wondering why on earth I mentioned the Lions and Stamps matchup when this article is about the best running backs in the game today. Well, two things. Andrew Harris should be in the conversation when discussing the best ball carries in the CFL today. Secondly, Harris numbers (five carries for 20 yards and three catches for 20 yards) paled in comparison to Cornishs on the night. Remember in Week 5 of the 2012 season, Cornish was held to an unthinkable number (six carries for minus one yard and two catches for 24 yards). Can you say, uh oh? So with that said, Im thinking there are a few consistencies with how Cornish operates -- dont disrespect him or his teammates, and you cant keep Jon down. If you do pop off or somehow manage to corral this horse, anticipate a tremendous effort and or performance in retaliation. You see, go back to Week 2 of this season when the Riders put a whooping on the Stamps and Sheets out-shined the reigning rushing champ. Sheets numbers were 26 carries for 133 yards and another two catches for 14 yards. Cornish was held in check -- eight carries and only 42 yards. Fast forward to Friday Night Football at McMahon Stadium this past week. We witnessed the two best running backs in the CFL go at it for the second time this season, with Cornish carrying that proverbial chip on his shoulder for what happened in Week 2 and, BANG...he goes off and steps up his game once again... Hello!!! Bottom line is; I cant wait for Round 3 of the Sheets vs. Cornish ground and pound. Should be another must-see game! And if you cant wait that long, catch Cornish and Harris going mano y mano this Saturday night (TSN, TSN Mobile TV at 9pm et/6pm pt) Heres a closer look at Cornishs ability to rebound, thanks to ace TSN stat guy, Jon Perlberg!!! After Cornish was held to minus-1 yard by the Lions in Week 5 last year, he responded in his next game with a then-career-high 170 yards on 20 carries against the Ticats. Not to mention, that negative rushing game by Cornish spurred an incredible eight-game stretch that saw Jon rush for 928 yards (116 per game). Also, this is the fourth straight time Cornish has responded with a big bounce back game vs. the Riders following a rough outing the time before. In other words, the Riders havent been able to shut him down two times in a row. Cornish vs. Riders 2011: 3 carries, 16 yards - bounce back game: 13 carries, 149 yards, 2 TD2012: 11 carries, 39 yards - bounce back game: 24 carries, 159 yards and 12 carries, 67 yards. Bounce back game: 18 carries, 109 yards (West Semi-Final)2013: 8 carries, 42 yards - bounce back game: 16 carries, 175 yards, 4 TD Ready Break!!! Mark Clayton Youth Jersey . For the Bombers it has been a combination of things coming together at the most inappropriate moments in time. Quarterback, injuries, Canadian talent or depth and leadership are all issues. Trust me when I say being a Bomber is no fun right now in a city that embraces football the way Winnipeg does. While Buck Pierce will be getting another shot, I think Max Hall does deserve another opportunity. Cameron Wake Youth Jersey . Henry, who missed three games with a knee injury, was charged with a handball in the penalty area in the 82nd minute as he went to block a strike from Patrick Mullins. On the ensuing penalty kick, Lee Nguyen picked up his fourth goal of the season, giving the Revolution a 2-1 win Saturday afternoon. http://www.dolphinsrookiestore.com/Dolphins-Larry-...ka-Jers ey/ . According to Yahoo! Sports, the team has reached a five-year deal to play their home games on the roof of the Plaza Hotel and Casino.MONTREAL -- For Montreal Canadiens and their rabid fans, its seventh heaven. In a fight for their playoff lives, the Montreal club pulled off a convincing 4-0 win against the Boston Bruins on Monday night to force a seventh and deciding game in their Stanley Cup playoff semifinal series. To hear their fanbase, a do-or-die Game 6 win against their hated rivals from Boston was never in doubt. "Incredible! The Habs are the best, did you see that win?," yelled Andrew Giannakis, breathlessly, as he emerged from the arena. "They scored the first goal and the rest is history." As with Monday night, Montreal is faced with a must-win situation in 48 hours if it wants to continue being the only Canadian team in the NHL playoffs this year. Some, likes Charles Mondon, can feel the playoff fever in the air. "I dont think there is no better place to cheer for hockey than Montreal," said Mondon, sporting a Max Pacioretty jersey as he smoked a cigarette outside the arena. "No disrespect to the rest of Canada ... here in Montreal, we bleed hockey, we breath hockey, we eat hockey, we sleep hockey." Mondon predicts a close contest on Wednesday night -- a three-goal game that could really go either way. "To be honest with you, Game 7 against Boston for round two is the best feeling in the world," Mondon said. "I think were going to beat them." Montreal and Boston is considered one of the greatest rivalry in sports, and that battle is playing out again this post-season. The Canadiens and Bruins have met a whopping 34 times in the NHL playoffs, wiith the Canadiens having won 24 of those series. Bob Griese Youth Jersey . Things have been different in recent years -- the Bruins have taken the last two series in 2009 and 2011. But fans are hoping for a reversal of fortunes, like Devon Pattemore of Yorkton, Sask., a lifelong Habs fan who finds herself in Montreal for a conference during a playoff run. Sporting a well-worn Saku Koivu jersey, she came out to watch the third period outside the Bell Centre with a few hundred other fans who peered into a restaurants giant screen from outside the eatery. "Theyre just a faster team and I just believe in them," said Pattemore, predicting a Montreal Game 7 victory. "On Wednesday night well be at a pub (in town) watching." The last time the Canadiens beat the Bruins in the playoffs was in 2008 and it was largely overshadowed by what happened once the game was done. A thrilling, emotionally charged seventh game win ended with smashed windows, tear gas and arrests. Police cars were set ablaze and stores looted when a festive celebration turned ugly. But in a city known for its hockey-related rioting, security has not been an issue so far in these playoffs. There was a heavy police presence downtown on Monday night, but few revellers made it up to the downtown core. Clusters of officers were gathered at every street corner and in front of storefronts that might be susceptible to looting. Security guards hired by some businesses milled about and there were no large gatherings on a crisp May evening. And by the end of the night, Montreal police reported no major incidents.
