The 4-year-old chestnut colt worked six furlongs for a second straight week and was timed in 1:11.60, a full second faster than last Saturday. Outstanding. Early last year he posted three straight wins at Santa Anita in the California Cup Derby, San Felipe Stakes and Santa Anita Derby before taking the first two legs of the Triple Crown. He was fourth in the Belmont Stakes and sixth to Bayern in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing on Sept. 20. California Chrome has banked $4,222,650 from 16 career starts with nine wins. The Islanders host Los Angeles on Thursday before welcoming the Detroit Red Wings to Long Island on Saturday to complete the homestand.
